It was decided to identify, classify and order these documents, to identify the fonds coming from the Apostolic Prefecture of Southern Patagonia, Apostolic Vicariate of Magallanes and Province of San Miguel. Convivencias religiosas en el inicio de siglo (1900-1914) https://revistas.unisal.edu.ar/index.php/chronica/article/view/35
Towards the end of the 19th century, the salesian and anglican voyages, in pursuit of missionary work in Patagonian territories, marked a period climate in the desire to educate and attribute a civilizing role, which even reached the Falklands Islands. The following work explores salesian planning and daily life, in a territory in dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom, in dialogue with the Protestant side and the colonial government of the Falklands. The hypothesis will be to demonstrate how the South Atlantic islands were another space of religious and educational tensions, in a global context that promoted them.
Francisco Nicolás Novas Lo Coco Copyright (c) 2024 Chronica. Distancias y comunicaciones en Malvinas durante la Gran Guerra (1914-1918). La experiencia del padre Mario Migone a través de su correspondencia https://revistas.unisal.edu.ar/index.php/chronica/article/view/36
This article approaches the strategies deployed by salesian father Mario Luis Migones to circumvent the isolation and difficulties for communication of the catholic mission in Malvinas Islands due to the Great War (1914-1918). The core sources for the research are Migone’s unpublished letters, found in the Correspondence section from the Archivo Histórico Salesiano Argentina Sur, Sede CABA. These are complemented with a chronicle written by Migone and published in 1948 posthumously, titled 33 años de vida malvinera and documents from the islands’ British aministration’s Jane Cameron National Achives. The article dialogues with both studies of the salesians (in the first decades of their settlement in Patagonia) and of the history of the Malvinas (respecting communication and the English goverment of the islands).
Nicolás Alejandro Medina Copyright (c) 2024 Chronica. The Salesian Historical Archive of South Argentina – CABA headquarters, houses various sources that document this presence, among them the “Chronicle of the Departure of the FMA from the Malvinas Islands” during the Second World War. This document includes the testimony of two of the religious members of that community, in which they explain the reasons for their return to the Punta Arenas headquarters until the war ended, but the return to the islands never took place. Despite the decade that passed since the events, the testimony is reliable and confirms what is described in the Chronicle of the House, written at the time of the departure.
Ana María Fernández Copyright (c) 2024 Chronica.
